Scientific Panel on chemical hazards due to its multidisciplinary approach includes following fields: chemistry (organic, inorganic, analytical chemistry; chemical compounds in food production that are intentionally added eg. food additives or as contaminants); toxicology (absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of chemical substances from the body, toxicokinetics and toxicodynamics, sub-chronic and chronic toxicity, genotoxicity and mutagenicity, developmental and reproductive toxicity, carcinogenicity, allergies and immunotoxicity); toxicological tests on experimental animals (the interpretation of the toxic effects of chemical contaminants in animal studies) and epidemiology (biomarkers) and exposure assessment (analysis of food consumption studies).
