The conference was organized under the high auspices of PhD Ivo Josipovi\u0107, the President of the Republic of Croatia and under the patronage of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Croatia and Ministry of Environmental and Nature Protection. The conference&#8217;s slogan was <i>\u201eLet every day be a world day against food waste\u201c.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>The audience consisted of approximately 170 stakeholders in the food chain &#8220;from farm to fork&#8221;, representatives of the competent authorities, industry, retail, consumers \u0301 organizations and the scientific community.<\/p>\n<p>In the opening part the audience was welcomed and addressed by Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture in Osijek, prof. PhD Vlado Guberac, Andrea Gross-Bo\u0161kovi\u0107, Director of the Croatian Food Agency, Denis Ambru\u0161, Deputy Mayor of City of Osijek, PhD \u017deljko Kralji\u010dak, Deputy county perfect of the Osijek-Baranja County, Stjepan Tani\u0107, representative of the FAO and Bo\u017eica Rukavina, Assistant Minister, Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic Croatia. Assistant Minister pointed out in her speech that the problem of food waste is global phenomenon and it is incorrect to connect food wastage only to the rich and developed countries, since developing countries also deal with it. She expressed satisfaction that the Croatian Food Agency has recognized the importance of this topic and that leading experts were present there and the attendance of conference was really great, which further confirms that we are aware of the severity of this problem and the need to resolve it.<\/p>\n<p>PhD Ivo Josipovi\u0107, President of the Republic Croatia, addressed to the audience by video message.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DNqS0dq5Ozk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hah.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/moderatori.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" size-full wp-image-786 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hah.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/moderatori.jpg\" alt=\"moderatori\" width=\"250\" height=\"178\" \/><\/a>The topic of food losses and waste, through plenary sessions, was divided into perspectives: policy makers, science, food business operators and consumers. The conference was moderated by academician prof. PhD Vlasta Pili\u017eota i PhD Brigita Hengl.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hah.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/tani\u0107.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" size-full wp-image-787 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hah.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/tani\u0107.jpg\" alt=\"tani\u0107\" width=\"250\" height=\"178\" \/><\/a>The first presentation from the perspective of policy makers on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hah.hr\/images\/data\/skup2014\/pdf\/Uloga%20i%20aktivnost%20FAO-a%20u%20smanjenju%20gubitaka%20i%20rasipanja%20hrane.pdf\">FAO role and activities to reduce food losses and waste<\/a> was delivered by Stjepan Tani\u0107, FAO Regional office for Europe and Central Asia from Budapest.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hah.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/neven-vo\u0107e.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" size-full wp-image-788 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hah.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/neven-vo\u0107e.jpg\" alt=\"neven-vo\u0107e\" width=\"250\" height=\"178\" \/><\/a>PhD Neven Vo\u0107a, Director of Croatian Environment Agency, delivered the presentation on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hah.hr\/images\/data\/skup2014\/Gospodarenje%20komunalnim%20otpadom%20s%20naglaskom%20na%20otpad%20iz%20hrane%20u%20Republici%20Hrvatskoj.ppsx\">Municipal waste management with emphasis on food waste in Croatia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hah.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Serafini.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" size-full wp-image-789 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hah.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Serafini.jpg\" alt=\"Serafini\" width=\"250\" height=\"178\" \/><\/a>From the perspective of science, prof. In the concluding remarks, the necessity of cooperation of all stakeholders in the system was stressed as well as constant consumers\u2019 education and improving of monitoring and data collection on food losses and waste in order to enable relevant institutions to take effective measures to reduce it.
